An exceptionally long period of high temperatures and very little rainfall has taken hold of most of Northern Europe. The Netherlands is going through its driest summer in recorded history with a record drought having a big impact on nature and agriculture. The country which has spent most of its history fighting to keep the water out, now needs to find solutions to deal with droughts which will become ever more frequent in a rapidly changing climate.
