Al Jazeera report on Europe's plastic waste crisis
Working with reporter Fleur Launspach, I shot this Al Jazeera news report on the need for Europe to pick up its plastic recycling game after China banned the import of waste earlier this year. For decades, European countries have only been recycling their highest grade plastics, shipping off the rest to China. Now that the Asian powerhouse decided it no longer wishes to be the world's garbage dump, it has left Europe with large stockpiles of plastic and a pressing need to find a solution for the waste it creates. Meanwhile, technological solutions are being developed that will provide more sophisticated ways of recycling which make plastic a source material in a circular sytem. This will also help reduce our dependency on oil.
